Introducing... ART


Originally, I was going to post this yesterday, but I delayed it for one very important reason...

SNOG!!!

He is the perfect, head-empty combination sniper AND frog. All he wants is to open mouth big and go pew-pew.  This is the peak of art. 

So yeah, the game has some cool art now and not just some random space guy. I was going to find some detailed sprites made by someone else and then credit them, but somehow I ended up making all original art. Oops! Well... maybe not fully original. I might have gone to the dark side and used... A.I. Gasps!! I know, scary stuff. I only used it for little Snog and even then it took a bit of work to make it not look like a frog hit with gamma rays. 

Anyways! The art looks good. I really like how the bats turned out. When rendered in-game, the different kinds of enemies get a different color filter applied and it works perfectly with the black-and-white sprites! It took a bit of finessing the get the animations working and turning to face the player, but nothing too hard. 

The only thing that didn't work out is the grapple whip attack animation. Right now it kinda looks like some weird fishhook, so I will probably revisit that this week. it was the first animation I tried to make so it was a little rough. Thankfully, by the time I made Snog, I had honed my artistic skills enough to capture his fully magnificent glory!

So, what's up for next week? Everything.

I want to have the game in a state that is at least passable as an EARLY alpha game. Even then, that "EARLY" is doing a lot of heavy lifting. The main things are:

  • Randomize Power-ups without duplicates
  • More Levels (1-2 larger levels)
  • Some kind of pause
  • And more power-ups

I might not get to all these things but an attempt will be made. Wish me luck.
